Our Maine Coons have a look that can not be easily duplicated. Makanani’s Hawaii Koons is owned by an experienced breeder that holds a Bachelor Degree in Animal Science with course work that focused on genetics, reproduction and husbandry. As a breeder, this provides a deeper understanding of animal behaviors, genetics, and health leading to superior Maine Coon Cats being produced.
All of our breeding Maine Coon Cats have genetic testing done prior to breeding AND we only purchase our breeding cats from catteries that do screening as well. The testing includes those for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), polycystic kidney disease (PKD), spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), MDR1 Medication Sensitivity, and Pyruvate Kinase Deficiency(PK).
HCM is a heart disease that is common in many breeds, including Maine Coons. PKD is a disease that can affect the kidneys and cause cysts to develop, while SMA is a condition that causes muscle weakness and can affect a cat's quality of life. MDR1 Medication Sensitivity is a disorder caused by a defect to a drug pumping protein that plays an important role in limiting drug absorption and distribution (particularly to the brain). Cats with the MDR1 variant may have severe adverse reactions to some commonly used medications. Pyruvate Kinase (PK) Deficiency is a disorder that causes anemia due to the breakdown of red blood cells.
Maine Coon kittens range in price from 2200 to 5000. The average price is around 2800. Prices vary dependent on sex, color, pedigree, and quality.
Kittens come with their first two vaccinations, health record, microchip, registration and are spayed/neutered. We also offer support for the lifetime of your Maine Coon. We love staying in contact with those who have Maine Coons from us!
Fill out an application on our "Contact" page. We will contact you to schedule a time to discuss our Maine Coons and our adoption process. Kittens are considered reserved only after we have received back a signed contract and deposit.
We are located on the island of Hawai'i. However, we are able to easily transport to other islands. We also have transportation services available to Seattle and Portland as there are direct flights from Kona to these two airports and we occasionally fly there. *Transportation costs are not included in the price of the kitten.
